My Story From as early as 16 years of age I began exploring birthing traditions, customs, and interventions throughout cultures and history. I found the belief and trust indigenous women had in their bodies and the birth process to be an enlightening inspiration, in stark contrast to the medicalization of birth with which I was familiar. I felt there must be a way to return birth to nature and nurture, and reduce the medical management and intervention in non-complicated pregnancy and delivery.I strive to help women (and their partners) re-claim the spirituality of birth, and the appreciation of a woman's power to bring new life into the world unscripted. I support mother/baby-friendly maternity care which upholds and promotes a woman-centered birth. It was the birth of the first of my own three children in 1996 which strengthened my opinion of the value of a doula and brought me to my own calling in 1997. Being a doula is my passion and my profession. I am a DONA International Certified Doula and I am in the process of attaining certification through Birthing From Within as both a Mentor and Doula. I have assisted women in both home birth and hospital birth. I continually draw from my background as a licensed physical therapist but I do not provide physical therapy services as part of my doula practice.
